Dramatic Arts

Overview

From preschool to graduation, Maumee Valley students are immersed in the joys and disciplines of the stage. Our youngest students learn about drama in their art and music classes. Formal instruction begins in 3rd grade, where students play creative drama games to develop their observational skills, reduce performance anxiety, encourage their creative imagination, and introduce them to dramatic conventions.

Middle School students can take two theater electives and can begin auditioning for and performing in one of our biennial productions for students in grades 4-8.

In the Upper School, students advance their knowledge through courses, two annual productions on the Millennium Theater stage, and Intensives. A recent New York Intensive allowed a group to experience the magic of Broadway by attending five Broadway shows and participating in drama workshops. A trip to England had students enjoying Shakespearean Theatre along with sightseeing. And in 2023, Gabbi Meyers ’23 directed students in grades 4-8 in the production of “James and the Giant Peach Jr.”
