Our schoolwide focus on opening students’ minds to the world beyond campus is central to our educational philosophy. Students fluent in multiple langu年龄s and cultures are better prepared for success in college, 他们的职业生涯, 并为多元化社会的健康做出贡献.

The pursuit of global fluency begins with our schoolwide emphasis on langu年龄 acquisition. The mission of the department and its six faculty is to educate students to become proficient in 沟通 and informed global citizens. 基于我们的语言迁移目标, MV students will learn to communicate in langu年龄s other than 英语; gain knowledge and understanding of other cultures; develop insight into the nature of langu年龄 and culture; connect with other disciplines; and participate in multilingual communities at home and around the world.

Biliterate 沟通 requires the student to have the cap能力 to read and write another langu年龄 as well as the 能力 to listen to and comprehend (or speak/sign) the second langu年龄. The student must have the 能力 to use culturally-appropriate langu年龄 to communicate spontaneously in non-rehearsed contexts with a high degree of competence and in real-life situations. 因为语言能力不是一成不变的，它会随着时间的推移而退化, 特别是如果学生没有积极地使用或学习语言, the testing window to demonstrate that proficiency opens only 15 months before the expected graduation date.

Maumee Valley Country Day School is a partner with Global Public Service Academies (GPSA) to help students become active global leaders by collaborating with local authorities in Guatemala to promote health equity in underserved communities. The program is an intensive experience for students with a passion for career paths such as a medical doctor, 护士, 药剂师, 生物医学工程师, 牙医, 或者其他健康职业.
Students accepted into the GPSA program learn through hands-on service by offering clinical screenings and providing health education activities.
The program begins with a one-week pre-trip session co-taught by Maumee Valley and GPSA faculty. 一次在危地马拉, students explore local social issues while working in medical clinics learning basic medical interventions such as conducting vision screenings and measuring blood pressure, 血糖, 心率, 呼吸率, 和温度. 学生住在当地寄宿家庭.

Students may enroll at any time during their freshman or sophomore year; however, it is strongly suggested that students enroll as early as possible to allow for a greater amount of time and more flexibility in meeting the requirements of the program. Interested juniors should consult with the GLP co-directors to plan a viable path toward certification (if certification is desired).
